I don’t like to attack other artists and I really don’t care about Britney. If you like her music good for you. But let’s get real.
Britney Spears can NOT sing. She lip-synced her entire last tour. The amount of autotune on her new songs is worse than Ke$ha’s. Is it Britney singing? Or a robot? Sometimes, I’m honestly not sure.
Britney Spears does NOT write her own music. She relies on others to create her bland, generic songs about sex and dancing…really deep stuff.
Britney Spears can NOT dance anywhere near like she used to. At her last tour, she walked clumsily around the stage with various half-hearted gyrations. In her latest music videos, including the over-hyped HIAM, not even great editing can make Britney look like she can dance.
Britney is a 100% MANUFACTURED artist. At one point, was she talented? Perhaps. Now? Not really. She is using her superior name for recognition and the public’s love for her once-every-six-year comebacks to pass off Ke$ha styled, bland, boring club music as ‘hits’. At some point, you have to ask yourself, should I really support a singer who CAN’T *sing*?
Look, if you like Britney, great for you. But if you’re going to mask your disdain towards other Artists as ‘the truth’ and ‘exploration’, ‘not accepting monster cult bullshit’, expect to get the REAL truth handed to you. Best of luck to Britney and her success, but all you people do is give her a bad name.
The thing about older artists like Britney is that people still believe that their beloved musician is one day going to come back and dominate the charts despite having lost their shine and attraction years ago. Britney Spears was a powerful force in the pop world up until her Blackout album; that’s when she started going downhill. Her music became more and more generic and there just wasn’t any feeling to the music. Just listening to Hold It Against Me, you can clearly tell that she’s lost all the soul and potential her music used to have. I have a bad feeling Femme Fatale is going to pull a Bionic.
I’m scared it’s going to end up like Bionic too =/ Even though I’m a Gaga stan I’m not one to hold grudges and I know if it does Flop heaps of Britney Spears fans are going to be really humiliated. That’s exactly what happened with the Christina fans before Bionic was released. Britney’s last album sold over 500,000 copies in its first week and she’s been around for 13 years, never once releasing a flop (even Blackout sold a million copies without any promotion).
And if you think that she “can’t sing,” you’re just being fucking obtuse. You might say ‘her voice is not for me,’ but of course she ‘can sing.’ Just because she doesn’t have the ‘powerhouse’ style doesn’t mean she ‘can’t sing.’ People who know nothing about music — that is: most Little Monsters — seem to not understand that there is a different between ‘not a full-throated powerhouse vocalist’ and ‘can’t sing.’

Britney can sing, she used to have an amazing voice. When she first came into the Music buisness she had really beautiful and strong vocals. If you listen to old videos of her singing live, her voice is much deeper than it sounds on the actual track. Her label wanted her to sound provocative so they had her sing with a higher register to create a more ‘sexy’ sound. But trying to sound like something else strains your vocal cords eventually and it messed up her voice.

considering I’m not a gaga or britney fan, I could care less about the ensuing argument, personally I think all modern or semi-recent pop singers usually lead to a dead end in these kind of arguments. I will say That there is also a difference between gaga and Britney, in that Gaga wants attention, but Britney simply ‘gets it’. To promote her new song all I heard from her promotion was maybe a tweet. I guess you could say she is letting the music speak for itsself, in that sense.

I don’t get the whole Lady-Gaga-Is-Arrogant-and-Pretentious accusations. She’s confident and believes in herself, but I wouldnt say cocky or arrogant. Cocky and arrogant is more like Kanye West who has his head up his own ass and like to diss others.
Gaga isn’t an attention whore. It’s true, she DOES dress that way for the Fame. But it’s basically a marketing plan. And like it or not, you have to admit it’s brilliant. Too long have I listened to the critics of Gaga; tearing her down for being creative and boundary pushing. Some cast her outlandish appearance off as publicity grabbing, some chalk it up to drug addiction, and some choose to downplay her successes by insisting that she is simply repeating the songs of yester-decades. Pushing the envelope of pop performance is something that she stands out for, though, not something that makes her blend in with the rest of the music royalty.
In a recent article while alluding to the fact that in the previous era of pop an artists trademark stunt or bit had to be seen live to be appreciated Darryl Sterdan stated that, “The fame ferris wheel accelerates very year.” Now I imagine what he meant to say was that the fame ferris wheel accelerates every year. That is true. Every year a new aspect of social media thrusts our celebrity populace farther into the eye of the public. As he points out every performance or appearance instantly becomes available to the entire world via social networking sites and other internet outlets; but that is not, as Sterdan implies, the bane of Gaga’s existence. It is not the only reason that she has become the leader of this generations Pop industry, but it is one of the most important. It has allowed her fans to access her on a level that the world has never seen before. She has taken pop music and turned it into something 3-dimensional; something no artist has ever truly accomplished in such a world dominating way.
You could agree with Sterdan’s comments insinuating that Gaga’s meat dressing, bubble wearing shock-pop antics take away from her ability to focus on creating and producing great culture-transcending music as long as you ignore the six singles that reached #1 on the billboard charts off of her debut album “The Fame Monster”. You could nod your head to the idea that because she has only released 14 songs on one album that she is somehow an inferior artist, as long as you pretend not to notice the fact that she has been selling out shows consistently for the past 3 years across the world off of only those 14 songs. You could even appreciate his argument that because she has not even released her second album she does not deserve the monumental level of fame that she has reached, so long as you completely disregard the truth.
At age 17 Gaga became one of only 20 people to ever be accepted to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts on early admission. By the age of 20 she was already signed to a record and writing hits for sensations like the Pussy Cat Dolls, Britney Spears, and many other one-hit-wonders. She has been self produced throughout her entire career. She built herself into Lady Gaga through seedy club gigs and self promotion. No TV talent search, no Youtube instant hits, no teen cable sitcom. Gaga is 100% home grown Pop-Star.
Since the drop of “The Fame” Gaga has drop kicked the world into a new era of music culture. The genre defining artist has already taken the stage next to many of the greatest artists of all time; Elton Jhon, Beyonce knowles, Flo Rider, New Kids On The Block. She was even slated to be the opening act for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” shows in London before he passed on. That kind of recognition is not reached by being just a plate of deserts. Lady Gaga is a full meal deal, and should be respected for surpassing the level of success any prior pop icon had reached in the infancy of their careers.
The beauty of Gaga’s custom brand of performance art is that when it is publicly discarded and criticised for being in poor taste her fans love it even more. The fact that the nose-in-the-air music world discounts her as a freak of culture is exactly what her fans go crazy for. She recently debut the first single “Born This Way” from her new album of the same name at the Grammy awards and by the next morning it was already #1.
So long as there are at least 5 pessimistic critics, writing damming reviews about the woman, there will be a million Gaga fans to disagree with them.

I actually had a very strange dream about Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Britney Spears and Beyonce a few days ago that I feel I’ll probably never forget it. It was weird and I don’t know if it’s just a figement of my imagination, but please read all of this:
The dream was like a TV show episode. I’m pretty sure it had some theme music at the beginning, but I can’t remember what. Before I saw any of the “characters” a shot of a villa or apartment was shown. It highly resembled the villa with the swimming pool from Lady Gaga’s Poker Face video, only less modern.
The first scene showed Beyonce standing in a kitchen washing plates at a sink. She looked perfectly normal, but one thing was different. She had an expression of pure hate on her face and her eyes seemed very bright and hard, almost luminous in her head. Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Britney Spears entered the room and sat the table. All of them were dolled up and no one was in ordinary clothes. Lady Gaga was wearing the blue swimsuit from her Poker Face video, only with long, draping sleeves and Britney was wearing a black and gold bikini. The others were wearing typical celebrity awards show/premiere dresses. I wasn’t in the dream myself at all. It was like I was watching it on the TV. I was starting to get unnerved by this time, as none of the women seemed like themselves. Beyonce seemed furious, Rihanna seemed anxious, Gaga seemed depressed, and Britney seemed to be genuinely traumatised. I noticed Britney had a shadow cast over her as they were all around the table. Britney started whispering into Rihanna’s ear, so quiet I couldn’t hear. The rest were silent and it was creepily unnerving. This continued for a minute, once again in strange, eerie silence, until it cut away to a shot of Lady Gaga. I was freaked out by this, as she had never moved from the table. She was wearing a green version of her 2010 Grammys dress. Her eyes were glowing now too, and she was surrounded by similar looking women, who were almost like her minions, her “Little Monsters” in a sense. The glow then spread throughout the rest of her body, lighting up the tubes on her dress and her “minions” immediately leaped into their air. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was shocked and frightened beyond belief. The halo and glowing eyes subsided, and as though nothing had happened, she re-entered the house, asking about breakfast. She sat down to eat, and then Rihanna put her hand to her head, and said “I think I’m gonna be sick.” She walked away from the table, and ran to the bathroom. A few seconds later I could hear loud growling from the bathroom.
Gaga went into the bath screaming “Shut the f**k up! I have a hangover!” Then suddenly, there was dead silence again, and a blurry, zoomed-in camera shot showed Gaga running out of the room, with her hand on her mouth and a scared expression on her face. She kept crying and babbling about something being “scary” and how she couldn’t take it anymore. The camera was angled a little to the right, and because of this, I could see a shadow of a big burly man jumping up and down, almost enjoying her suffering. After a few seconds of this, the man jumped into the air as Gaga’s own minions had done before. They then went back to the footage of her running out the room, being stopped by Beyonce, asking what was wrong and why she was crying. She just started shaking her head frantically and then pushed away Beyonce. She sat down with her head in her lab, still sobbing.
Then came Rhianna out of the bathroom, which was perhaps the most horrible sight in the entire disturbing dream. Her eyes were blood red, with an enormous white pupil and nothing else. Her mouth was grinning, and her teeth looked as though they had gotten sharper. Her hands were open, yet still tightly being held, like a tiger about to pounce. And that is exactly what she ended up doing.
She pounced on Britney, letting out a horrendous animal like scream, more horrifying than anything in a movie, a sound I hope no one else ever hears for the rest of their lives, and began squeezing Britney’s neck. At first, she began to gasp for air, and attempt to scream as the other women, who were in horror, tried to rip Rhianna off her, but to no avail, almost as if Rhianna had acquired some sort of demonic strength and continued squeezing. Then, bizarre music began to play in the background, and Britney stopped gasping for air, fell to the ground, and died. Looking at this made me want to cry, but I was too distracted by the Demon flying out of Rhianna’s body, causing her to return to normal. Everyone looked in horror at the demon, finally realizing Rhianna’s demonic possession, and surrounded Britney’s body, crying mournfully. Rhianna got up off the ground, and asked what happened. They looked at her, and then Gaga said in a really weird soft voice that wasn’t hers, “She’s gone. Now we must mourn.”
Then the dream ended with a shot of Beyonce, Rhianna and Gaga hugging on the ground and then I woke up.
I’m still slightly disturbed even now and I’m not one to think of celebrities so I don’t know where my brain plucked the fuel for that dream from.

Lady Gaga is producing some of the greatest music in the past 40 years.
Well, at least for me she is.
Why? She is musical artist, not just a musical performer. She understands that in order to make Art, you must have content, form, and most importantly concept. Art is nothing unless the audience gains from the experience. Her songs and videos are layered in meaning, while at the same time she has the ability to touch upon the common human traits we all share. She can make you laugh one moment and cry the next. You can get lost in her music and uncover emotions and feelings long lost or never before experienced. She is extremely intelligent and her work ethic cannot be minimized. Many musical performers entertain us, but I want something more. I want a concept, a thought, something I can sink my teeth into and be challenged intellectually. Make me think; make me feel; make me experience. And being entertained at the same time is definitely a bonus.
Do I think all her songs are great? Of course not. Some are obviously better than others, but I bet my list will be different from yours. And that’s the point. She manages somehow to touch so many people, but not exactly in the same way. And that’s what Art is all about.
Besides, anyone who tattoos a peace sign on their arm and hangs out with the big dogs, has to be admired.
That’s my opinion, and I’m sticking with it.

I’m no Lady Gaga stan, but Britney Spears seriously is awful, I don’t understand why so many people like her.
She’s made about 100 comebacks now and I don’t doubt that this will just be another Circus comeback. People just like Britney because they think she’s sexy (which I strongly disagree with) and because of her relatively mediocre Music.

Lady Gaga is more talented than Britney. Yes, Britney can sing well but only that. Lady Gaga sings with an amazing voice. Her vocals are resilient and emotional, they can be catchy and attention-grabbinng without any backup at all. Gaga stands on her own. Britney has lots of things to lean back on. I am one of the few people who find Britney’s voice annoying. It has a squeaky undertone to it. Gaga’s is deeper and more easygoing, not so highly provocative all the time. Britney’s label want her to be ”sexy”. That’s all she’s used for. She probably has no control over her career at all. She’s a sex puppet. Put her in a bikini and slap some makeup over her face, shove her in front of a camera and the deal’s done. Gaga isn’t so in-your-face provocative and that’s why so many people like her. The amount of desperate ”Look at me, I’m sexy!” vibes that come off Britney have a negative effect on her fanbase and as a result, the majority of Britney Spears fans have turned into shallow and taunting bullies. Their favourite tactic is to call Gaga and her fans ugly/fat/tranny. In the words of an Exhaler; ”All of Gaga’s fans are fat and ugly as hell, that’s why they are all so deluded and crazy about her because they can relate to the tranny.” This just proves that *Exhale is a hypocritical bunch of shitheads*.

Gaga scares the shit out of me, I’m not even joking. There’s just something so screwed up about her. Has anyone heard of Lina Morgana? She was a young singer who worked with Gaga before she got famous. Lina committed suicide on the 4th of October, 2008- just a few months before Lady Gaga shot to Fame. Yana Morgana, Lina’s Mother, claims that Gaga stole her daughter’s style and soul in order for Fame. Some people even claim that Gaga murdered Lina. It’s all very strange. Lina supposedly commited suicide by jumping off a balcony at the Staten Island Hotel. In Gaga’s Paparazzi video, she gets thrown off a balcony. Coincidence? Also, notice the creepy brunette maid woman that Gaga shows throughout the video. In all of the pictures she’s dead, and she looks eerily like Lina. It’s creepy as Hell, and the fact that when a newspaper tried to talk to Gaga’s representatives about it, they were told that the people they wished to speak to were all on vacation at the time. Lina’s wikepidia page was also removed. Gaga’s definetely hiding something, no doubt about that.

I’ve seen Lady Gaga in concert and she is an amazing entertainer. She has so much energy and heart, and is a nice person, not one bit arrogant. She treats her fans well. She can sing very well. I like Britney and she was the Queen for her generation(late 90’s-early 2000’s), and she is a good dancer. But Lady Gaga has more talent overall… a powerful voice, dancer, artist, unexpected fashionista, works her butt off.

I used to be suicidal. When I listened to So Happy I Could Die I loved it. The trance beat just gave me a sense of…I don’t even know what it was. It was just amazing.
Being a Little Monster is who I am. I feel like Gaga gets me. I call myself a Little Monster and I’m proud of it, because I AM. We’re not psychopaths or obsessed with Gaga like most people think. It’s hard because I’m not strong like Gaga is. I can’t not care. I’m weak, and she is the only person who can make me feel strong. I don’t know where I would be without her. I love her so, so, so much. I don’t even think I’d have made it. When I was younger I was bullied for my weight at school and that’s resulted in me having low self esteem and thinking I’m ugly. It got so bad that my Mom had to homeschool me, and I’m still homeschooled now so I have no way to contact anyone and I literally have no friends and no one to talk to since there are no people my age in my street. I did read your essay thing and even though you have good critizism, I can honestly say I don’t care if Gaga is a copycat, weighs 9000 pounds, is ugly, is uncreative, is a liar, etc.

Yes. Lady Gaga IS a Great performer. She is a true Artist, and she has every right to see herself as one. Britney, however, is an unsure, manufactured sex advertisement. She has no control over her own career and her head is now completely screwed up from the media. In an interview, she said she thought her voice was “OK”. What true, confident Artist says they think their voice is “OK”? Madonna, Michael Jackson, or any other true legendary Pop icon would NEVER say that. I’m pretty sure she’s Schizophrenic. Many people have noticed that she has small signs of Schizophrenia and once critic who went to the Monster Ball in New York last year said that one stage she would flit between personalities such as “our Lord and Saviour” and “Tinker Bell”. There was also that thing last year where she randomly ran out of a photoshoot in tears. I’ve noticed that she may have DID as well. Pretentious or not, she’s definetely struggled through a lot of shit in her life.
She has also been known to put on different voices and accents. If you look at her first Jonathan Ross appearance at the start of her career, her voice was loud and she seemed very happy. In 2010 when she went back on the show, her voice was soft and quiet, almost hoarse, and she seemed secretive and was easily annoyed by the interviewer’s questions.
When she went on in 2009, she was annoyed with the questions and was screwing with him. In 2010, her voice was hoarse because she was exhausted from the nonstop work she does.
Despite never attacking other fanbases, many fanbases attack and accuse us. A user on Exhale labeled us as “filthy rapists” – sickeningly undermining real cases of rape. It is important that people see past such idiotic and misinformed views, as they are entirely false and set up to bring us down.
65% of Exhale have now started referring to us as the “Monster cult”. To compare a fanbase to a cult is delusional. To see a real cult, you would have to take a look at the Westboro Baptist “Church”. WBC is a delusional, homophobic, arrogant so-called Christian cult headed by Fred Phelps.
There have also been comparisions to Britney’s own fanbase as well. Comparing a fanbase or group that consists mainly of free thinkers, political students and individual people whom all share the goal of protecting freedom and self-condifence to a group of confused, inconsiderate people who march upon forums proclaiming their hatred of Lady Gaga fans is NOT a fair comparison to make.

Too bad Gaga is actually an artist who works on their album, writes their music, and shows some vocal talent. Britney is handed songs to sing on (not impressively), and isn’t involved anymore than that. Anyone could have recorded those songs.
But, see, Lady Gaga is a great performer, is a talented entertainer, does have one of the greatest vocals in the pop industry, and is a one of the greatest songwriters in the pop industry.
