Who Am I? What Is This?

What Is This?

This lovely little site is a resource for pop fans — and anyone else, really — who are unwilling to indulge the bullshit of Lady Gaga and her Monster Cult.

Although she entered the pop scene with a great deal of promise, it is my contention that Lady Gaga has rapidly transformed into an astonishingly arrogant, pretentious person — with very little to show for it.

I’m not a hater. I freely acknowledge that her music is damn good pop. However, given that I agree with Lady Gaga that popular music is an interdisciplinary art form and that image, style, and public relations play an integral part in it, I find it increasingly difficult to listen to her material without grinding my teeth. Her breathtaking failure to manage her image is ruining her as an artist.

I am a disillusioned fan of sorts. I was listening to The Fame in the summer of 2008, even before “Just Dance” was on regular rotation. I was rockin’ to “Paparazzi” over a year before it hit the charts. I remember entering an online contest to meet her, wondering whether she’d ever make it big. I requested “Just Dance” at DC-area clubs but found myself disappointed when the DJ refused to play it during peak hours: nobody knew what it was yet. I admired the early Gaga’s grit in sticking up for pop music and for other singers, especially Britney Spears, who was, at the time, down on her luck. Today’s Lady Gaga is more apt to spit upon Britney and others who paved the way for her success.

Nobody is denying her success — so far. But I believe that if people were aware of all of the material listed on this site, there’d be a massive backlash against her.

I’d like to get one going.

Who Am I?

My name’s Alex Knepper. I’m 20 years old and live in Hagerstown, MD. Here’s my Twitter; here’s my Facebook. I’ve done a lot of political and cultural commentary: here’s me in the New York Times and here’s me on CBS News, for instance. (I’ve been on hiatus from that since getting into a bizarrely nasty fight with some far-right wingers over whether being attracted to guys Justin Bieber’s age and making obscene jokes makes me a “pedophile.” Not writing for crazy far-right-wingers anymore!) But yeah. This is my latest project; just something fun, mostly.

Why do you spend so much time writing about someone you so clearly hate?

First of all, I don’t “hate” her; I hate few people: not many people are worth expending that much energy on. I have an interest in her as a major figure in pop culture, and I happen to have an opinion about her. It doesn’t conform with the Monster Cult’s opinion. Tough.

It’s okay to spend time discussing people you aren’t madly in love with. I pay plenty of attention to Barack Obama and Sarah Palin, too, for instance; it doesn’t necessarily mean that I love or hate either of them. They, like Lady Gaga, are important figures in American culture.

Aren’t you just jealous of Lady Gaga?

Lady Gaga is spreading a message of love and individuality. How can you oppose that?

I address this in the main essay, which is really the heart of the site. I would advise you to read it.

Gosh, first of all I wanna say thank you, for your act of standing up, and speaking your mind, I have to say that just like you, I really loved lady gaga during the JD/PF time, but as time went by, I started noticing who Lady Gaga really was and getting to know her real self, an arrogant and conceited person, I remember the day I stopped following her, it was when I read a message she tweeted just before her concert in Berlin, it goes “Kleine Monsters. Berlin is about to explode as the Monsterball begins. Open the cathedral + bang on your drums, tonight is for your freedom.”
11:40 AM May 11th via web

I was like wtf? cathedral? a place where u worship someone or something… who the hell she thinks she is? some sorta Jesus or a heavenly sent one? like promoting some sort of cult that revolves around her person? that she is there to be worshiped and praised like some goddess, and just becase she brought her tour to berlin, she was going to set its people free? free from what? c’mon it was probably her first or second time in berlin, she doesn’t even know their culture, social habists, behaviour or social stuggles that well, to promote the freedom of a city, just with some songs sex/club/boozing related and a couple of prefabricated speeches, I hate when someone comes from far away, and do not know u at all, and start saying ‘ooh I came to set u and your people free’… sounds too much like American policy during the Bush administration for my taste, so I say “No Thank you to Lady Laga and her so called freedom”

    From your Facebook page:

“650 hits since midnight — its first full day up! I’m on track to have 1,000 hits on my first day! Bring it, Little Critters!”

So this is just another site talking shit in the hope of getting the most hits.

    YOU are the fraud.

This place does look like some kind of childish self-aggrandizing enterprise, but I wouldn’t call the author a fraud because he really seems to believe he’s on some sort of mission here.

True that. Should stop going here, though – You’re only giving the hits. So am I, so, buh bye.

@Peter – Are you kidding me? I write a 4,000-word essay and you’re surprised that I want people to read it and consider my thoughts? Don’t be obtuse.

Yeah she does have a big ego but her music is still the bomb and she has serious raw musical talent. I just don’t pay attention much to her speeches or the image she tries to portray….it’s a lotta marketing hype but it will backfire as the bulk of her teenage fans grow up– it’s inevitable

I originally came to this site thinking I’d get some interesting insight in to why people might have some legitimate gripes about Lady Gaga. But really… this site is crap. Her appearances on 60 minutes and Leno have blown all of your ridiculous claims to waste. Her sincerity is a breath of fresh air compared to your silly ridicule.

You’re a Britney fan… So that explains it all. “Born This Way” smashed every record “Hold It Against Me” and you can’t stand it. Britney no longer cares about her fans and/or her career and you cannot stand it…

Oh well, that’s okay. Your problem, not ours. 😉 You’ll be this bitter for many, many years to come.
Come back when Britney can sing and perform LIVE. Can’t wait to watch her flail around and lip sync on Good Morning America. ❤

This site has been around since before Hold It Against Me came out, so, um…

Anyway, nothing can change the fact that Hold It Against Me is a ludicrously catchy, forward-thinking smash, whereas Born This Way is a boring, dated Express Yourself rip-off. Call me back when Gaga introduces a genre to Top 40 rather than plagiarizes Madonna again.

Hold it against me is nothin more than recycled electro pop trast with some dubstep borrowed from rihannas rated r .. when will u ppl learn NOTHIN about pop music is “forward thinkin” or innovative its called POP music for a reason its short for POPULAR whenever somethin seems to work everyone jumps on it .. I hate rihanna but she was one of the first to jump on dubstep then britneys drugged up ass followed rite along .. I think a britney site needs to be started to educate u a lil on whose been shady

if you want to change the world, why dont you spend it on something more relevant, than trying to awaken ppl from the evils of gaga. you clearly are jelous of her because she has been overall more successfull in her 3 year career then britney’s 13 year career. the sad thing is that you dont think their is room for anyone because the only one that could be number is britney. well guess what, its not possible. even though your probably crying in bed that BTW debuted and stayed at number 1 for 6 weeks, it will eventually fall down and give room to the next best song. and its funny because britney is not even gaga’s closest contender. there are other female pop stars that are much more closer to gaga’s success like katy perry and rhianna. britney has long been gone from this so called “competion”

“Not writing for crazy far-right-wingers anymore!”

Haha, but still ARE a crazy far-right winger.

    “On hiatus…”

Just hilarious. “I’ve been ruined” more like it. Or “I ruined myself” even more like it.

You fiend for recognition (“I was in the NY Times! I was on CBS!”) like a smack addict and for the rest of your life the thing you’ll be most known for is defending rape and sex with kids.

I bet you’re real unhappy. I bet you struggle to accept your lowly station in life. I bet you’re bitter and angry about what happened, maybe you ever cry yourself to sleep at night. That’s all outstanding. Your downfall into desperation and obscurity could not have happened to a more deserving person.

Embrace the misery of your life, you will need to get used to it.

Aren’t Lady Gaga fans all about spreading the love and peace and harmony and what not. This just encapsulates your hypocrisy and her’s as well.
And whatever Alex’s past digressions might be,he is working on a new article and a new job.
      Good for you.

I just want to say thank you: it’s hard to find any ex-fans of Lady Gaga anywhere.
I too at one point, happily called myself a ‘Little Monster’ and even went as (stupidly) far to send in a photo of myself holding up a sign saying ‘Happy Mother’s Day Mother Monster’ for a Youtube video. It was then at that point that I realised a few things:
    1) The ‘Little Monster/Mother Monster’ relationship was becoming cultish and that Little Monsters were becoming sheep.
    2) Everything she was preaching my parents had been teaching me since I was little: I did not need another ‘mother’ and I’ve never believed in role models or heroes.
    3) She herself was and is, full of contradictions the more and more she talked. Sure at first I was all for her and her gay rights campaign (which I am all for) but when she started talking about sex and (my pet hate in celebrities) religion, I turned off.
    4) I didn’t need some upstart I’d never met and who would not remember me the next day to ‘liberate’ me: I could a) do that myself without her prompting and b) I didn’t need it anyway.

So I quickly handed in my ‘Little Monster’ membership card and became an open minded fan of her music, but not a fan of her. And I must say, it was not a moment too soon.

I like this site – even though at times I feel it can carry some bullying mentality and nit pick at small things – but it’s good to see someone express their opinion. And really, watching the ‘Little Monsters’ become hypocrites by bashing your views and other artists like Britney and acting like cult brainwashed sheep is laughable. I wonder what Gaga would say if she saw this behavour in her dear little fans?

“I just want to say thank you: it’s hard to find any ex-fans of Lady Gaga anywhere.” Really? Here is your sign… And guess what? So many Americans were NOT taught what she preaches. Additionally, she has inspired more people than this lame blog ever will. Get a life!

Just wow, dedicate an entire blog to hating someone merely for her success. Don’t go against a really slimy political figure like a bigoted homophobic piece of shit like Rick Santorum or any other (there’s so many) hoping to be president. NO! Don’t go against warmongers promoting hate, fear and xenophobia like all those Nazi fucks and those racist fucks at Fucks News who have been implicitly encouraging countless murder of any type of political dissidents they disagree with. Don’t go either against the promoters of torture against mostly innoncent people in Gitmo like Dick fucking Cheney or all those NRA advocates keeping the rates of mass shooting (MASS MURDER I should say) at a record high by promoting gun sales and preventing any regulation of any form because they’re scummy little whores bought off by utterly selfish soulless unscrupulous corporatists. No of course, you choose to lash out against a celebrity, and not only that (It’s not like you took on vapid worthless Justin Beiber) of all the celebrities, you chose to lash out against currently the greatest, most inspirational and most accomplished artist relatively to the time she have been on the scene.

I’m glad this piece of shit that you call a “lovely little site” died off in six month flat and that the new website is for sale. GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE!
