New Project Idea: The Gaga Plagiarism List

So, how about a little site project?

As I re-listen to Born This Way, I can’t help but notice that almost every track has obvious influences — sometimes a bit too obvious. “Born This Way,” of course, infamously rips off “Express Yourself.” But who is talking about how “Highway Unicorn” directly rips off “Poker Face”? Have many people mentioned the striking similarities between “Electric Chapel” and Kylie Minogue’s “Cupid Boy”?

My own musical taste is probably too narrow to successfully point out all of the examples of rip-offs and questionable lines on the album. I’ve got a few more examples in the wings, but I want to see what you guys can come up with, too. When I make this list, I’ll categorize the various examples into ‘slam-dunk,’ ‘a bit suspicious,’ and ‘likely coincidental.’ I’d say that “Born This Way”/”Express Yourself” is a slam-dunk example of a rip-off, while the oft-cited Kelly Clarkson comparisons in “Edge of Glory” are likely coincidental.

At any rate, let me see the best examples of what your ear heard. We’ll turn this into a master list and spread it around the stan world.

Check out “Wannabe” by Loli Lux. “Judas” is a complete rip off of that song. I don’t know how she gets away with this crap.

    • Posted April 27, 2012 at 12:18 pm | Permalink | Reply

The synth used in this song and in Judas (also a couple of other songs) is a sample synth. That means it was created for people to use it. Loli Lux decided she wanted to use it and RedOne decided he wanted it for Judas. Loli claimed that it was a copy and all that jazz which is pretty hypocritical when probably about 60% of this track is just samples.

I actually kind of respect Gaga. She’s very intelligent, the way she sets this up and she tweaks things to fool the public into letting her ripoffs pass. She must have an extremely great mind. You could call her all the names under the Sun, but you definetely couldn’t call her dumb or stupid. In a parallel Universe, she’d probably be a con Artist.

haha wow I looked into the loli lux thing. there is a vid all the way back from Aug 2010 so it’s obvious she did it first, not to mention it looks like lady gagas 2nd persona she molded after her original “hair bows and spandex” one is very inspired by ‘Loli Lux’. whats funny is lady gaga fans commented on the video that gaga sampled it, yet didn’t lady gaga talk it up SO much how she was going to have “Sledge hammer beats” or some shit? Then she just goes and samples? Way to look like an idiot. I can sample sledge hammer beats, too.

btw interesting blogs about the topic:
    http://radiopopaction.blogspot.com/2011/05/lady-gaga-accused-of-plagiarism-again.html
    http://www.jollobuzz.com/2011/04/lady-gagas-judas-vs-loli-luxs-wannabe.html
    http://lolilux.com/blog/gagas-stylists-rob-other-artists/
the comments on the third one kind of piss me off. they claim gaga has always said shes ‘inspired by others’. I think this is just a bullshit thing she says so her fans can regurgitate it in cases like this. If lady gaga is THAT inspired, she wouldn’t be accepting ‘fashion icon’ awards, thanking Whitney Housten whilst wearing Heavily-Madonna inspired clothes/hair, and ripping off Madonnas music, and just saying how much she loves fashion and knows everyones names in the fashion industry. Real ‘fashionistas’ are so deep into it they have a true unique style. shes a complete contrived bitch.

The problem here is the consistency of the rip offs let’s not forget Alejandro which was NOTE for NOTE Ace of Base’s Don’t Turn Around. I think what people don/t understand as well is the fact that she didn’t come form anywhere. She made that up too. She wasn’t some performer on the downtown New York scene! I was here! There was no talk of an incredible talent with amazing outfits working it! Because those people are my friends! I live here, I was playing music on the underground scene.

She’s a big fat liar potty mouth. In her music, her story and her “creativity’ which come so obviously from a team of people.

It makes sense. Britney Spears fans LOVE to paint the idea of a Little Monster as an abusive, bratty, Emo/Scene wannabe beating up anyone who dislikes a Gaga song. They reinforce it SO much that even when their own fave’s SISTER has enough courage to say that they are a Little Monster…they will send DEATH threats. They literally harassed the shit out of Jamie Lynn.

But they are abusive, bratty, childish, stupid, immoral and pathetic. They bring up Britney’s worst momants CONSTANTLY to make Gaga look better to the general public, they project their own issues with their lives onto Britney and look up to Gaga cuz Gaga seems to have her shit together….which we all know is wrong, but hey tell that to the Monsters.
I have never seen a filthier playing group of bastards, and I survived high school in tact!

That’s the only problem with being a LM. When you’re even a Gaga stan, let alone a Little Monster, everybody expects you to be satisfied with playing GIF making on Tumblr for the rest of your life and saying you want to play the Piano, write songs, sing the songs, hook your brain up to a glitter Guitar amp, sleep with your plastic replica Disco Stick, read Jacqueline Wilson, dress like Mel Gibson in high heels, AND play synth-Piano in between.

The Queen = Song For The Lonely by Cher.
Fashion of His Love = Express Yourself.
Born This Way = Be Happy by SNSD.
Dance In The Dark – Careless Whisper by Wham!
Alejandro – Don’t Turn Around by Ace of Base.

That’s all I could come up with off the top of my head.

    There are tons of it.

I didn’t like BTW but I’m sure if I had the courage to listen to it again I could find some rip off tracks.

“Born This Way” really reminds me of that 2009’s track : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYdsS7TbG-A

Speechless : Parts of “Bohemian Rapsody” by Queen and “Your Song” by Elton John.
That’s why it was so easy to mash them up at the 2010 Grammys ! LMAO

I Like It Rough : “Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat.

Nothing Else I Can Say : “I Saw The Sign” by Ace Of Base.
That’s funny her team always made her say the name of respected figures such as Bowie, Madonna, Lou Reed, Jagger etc, as her artistic influences, when in fact most of her music is reminiscent of the 90s eurodance craze aka one of the most trashed genre of music you’ll ever find. It’s all about smoke and mirror.

This is totally unrelated, but I’m glad to hear Gaga used her real voice in Highway Unicorn(Road To Love). The rougher, more American tones. The lighter voice that she uses for songs like Poker Face is actually fake; her producers told her to do it for her sexual songs, and people seem to have thought it’s her real voice over time.

    Name: What Dreams May Come
Summary/Description: Lady Gaga finds something she thought she’d left long ago.

“Why are you still following me? Didn’t I say to let me alone?”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “I want to come with you.”

Gaga shook her head, hair falling into her eyes. “And why would you want that? Just being around me almost got you seriously ass kicked twice today.” She turned around again to leave and he darted in front of her. “I told you before,” she said, raking one hand through her hair in exasperation, “That’s not how I work. Not anymore, and it’s better that way. Nothing you could say…”

“When I was a kid,” he began, deliberately holding her gaze. “My Mother would tell me about her dreams. In these dreams she was always middle-aged and she said there was always another woman with her, a woman who spoke like an American but wasn’t one. A woman whose eyes were older than the rest of her.” Something very much like fear started to dawn in Gaga’s thinly lidded eyes. “She said that this woman wore clothes with magic at their heart.” He sent a very significant look at the feathered green split dress she wore, then stepped forward until there was almost no space between them at all.

He balled his hands into fists to keep them from shaking. “And she told me that if I ever met such a woman, I should fly after her and never look back.”

For a long moment she just stood there, emotions churning like a storm in those old, old eyes. When she finally did speak it was in a whisper. “Your Mother. What was her name? Her family name?”

He took a deep breath. “Morgana.”

She cupped his face and searched his face as if looking for something long lost, then suddenly pulled him off his feet into an enormous hug. He knew he ought to have been startled by the impossibly fast beating of her heart, but that had always been in his mother’s stories, too. “Shall we go, then?” she said, her voice muffled by his hair

He only nodded, his own heart beating so fast he wondered if he could hear it. It wasn’t every day one got the chance to step into a dream.

    Name: Bryonification
Summary/Description: Why The Monsters are Free.

In the place beyond the end of the universe and everything inside it, there are furnaces that look like stellar Ghosts. Furnaces that flare and spit, that render humanity down into something small and malignant and utterly, utterly mad.

There are dribs, and there are drabs; slag that is boiled off and discarded, left in the cold and the shadows to crystallise and creep away. Disregarded and unimportant, they moulder and decay into something entirely unlike their Human siblings who burn fiercely in the fire and the air.

On the day that the skies split open and the siblings fly away to answer to the will of a mad man, the furnaces die. The flames lick and curl only at themselves, dwindling down to smoulder and ash, and the crucibles slowly cool, creaking and groaning to themselves in a rhythm of four. Alone in a darkness that is both profound and absolute, Freedom comes. The good Freedom.
And they are at last able to move.

Slow and grinding, they stretch and turn. The broken ends of Life scatter and tumble around them, a tattered spider web of reality, caught in a hurricane of Time paradox. The coffin lock twists and buckles, the End coming for it at last.

They feel fear and it galvanises them into grasping at those broken ends, knotting and snarling themselves in the spider web until dimly they sense another place—different from both the furnace graveyard and the fractured horror their siblings are making. It is hard, and they are clumsy, but some of them succeed and, silent and unnoticed, they slip and slide through the cracks in the cell bars, heading towards the place that is cold and dark and young.

In the generations before the first starlight reaches this place, they shift in darkness, taste Freedom, and learn how to wrap little bits of it around them. They waver and change yet again, become creatures of Freedom instead of creatures merely within it.

So it is that when the first starlight does reach them, brought as a captive of people who fear darkness and live only in light, they discover the final change that they must make. The wake and the wash of unfamiliar brightness stirs vague memories of fire, and brings coldness like Ice.

Frozen, unwilling, they stand in the light, their form moulded by ideas outside of their own. They come to realise that they do not possess the skill to fit themselves through the perceptions of the creatures within.

    They are helpless.

Isolated, starving, they are forced to embrace the Ice and count it as the sum of their existence. The people with the light establish a civilisation like a glowing weed, one that chokes out all the dark places and never dims.

They endure, as only those who survived the Freedom can. They become a part of the cities, the worn and lost amongst them built into foundations and walls, the rest used as accessorial companions to the Humans or locked up in everyday, ordinary vaults.

After a duration that sees the city of glow encompass the entire planet, there is a war. They are glad, then, for their flesh is like Ice. It protects them even as it hides them in plain sight. Fury and destruction sweep through the glow, but they do not care—barely even notice—until the day that the threads of Freedom jump and dance and sing.

It is the first time that they have encountered another being who distorts Freedom, curves it around and about in the way that only those who are not entirely subject to its rules can. She is a warrior, incandescent and tall, and she doesn’t as much as notice that they are there ass he strides past, her defiance and Mutiny drawn about her like a cloak.

Freedom energy washes over them, tugging them into awareness and definition, making them more and more aware of the present as the present itself grows dim and quiet.

It is two days later when the last of the generators fail and the glow is utterly gone.

It is that evening, as everything slides into night that they are freed. They do not gasp, or sigh. They sag; deliberately touch the ground for the first time in centuries, and crawl clumsy through the desolation and the dirt. The first feed is an accident: one falls through a newly made hole in a ruined building, lands on top of a surely mad Human and-

-there is a flash, a shockwave in the Universe’s web and in an instant they are all minions striving towards the Queenly one. The sated, the one who now rises in their collective consciousness as a monolith, a mountain. Something that circumvents Freedom with Self and thrives on the impossible results.

They have at last found their very own paradox, born out of darkness and cold, not furnace and fire.

The ruins of the city of glow echo with the sounds of people, lost and blind in the dark.

    They embrace it.

    They feed.

Born This Way = Be yourself + Gay rights

      Scheisse = Feminism

Americano = Gay rights + Immigration laws

You and I = Gaga’s relationship with her boyfriend

Hair = Be yourself, don’t try to please others

Fashion of His Love = About Alexander McQueen after his death

Marry the Night = Take advantage of life and live it to the fullest

You have the right to dislike her, but listen first.

I mean honestly Born This Way (From what I’ve read) pushes me even further towards good fun unpretentious pop just for the fun of it.
if I want a deep song I’d got to Epica, or After Forever or Delta Goodrem or something that’s not straight out pop.
If you try to hard to be deep you end up coming off shallow anyway. The Fame has more of an idea a theme, a depth, a tongue in cheek analysis, a self awareness. Born this Way doesn’t have. Full stop. The Fame was the idea of chasing fame at any cost and the benefits and failings of it. Born This Way is a whole load of random dated songs about “Deep” ideas executed with the BARE MINIMUM thought process behind it. It’s just…and Monsters have to justify this shit to themselves. It’s embarrassing and shameful.

Alex, thank you for doing this blog. I will admit that i am a Godney fan. But I listen to so many other artists that Britney’s music only makes up a small portion of the songs i listen to. Anyways, from Pokerface to the Fame Monster, I’ve caught Gags cheating and ripping very specific songs from the 80’s. When i listen to a new Gaga album, I really want to hear a great album with music that’s cutting edge. Unfortunately time and time again Gags do not deliver. She only rips off sounds from the 80’s very blatantly. I am surprised she has not been sued yet because these plagiarisms are so obvious. And Gags does not give “sampling” credits to the stuff she so clearly “samples” from. It begs the question, why does the media not badger gags for the fraud she is. I really do not understand the public’s fascination with her, because she lacks so many aspects of a great artist. Hopefully the world will one day wake up and realize the travesty that gaga really is.

Little Monsters are cretins and are the worst form of human existence. If they like her so much, they should stay in forums praising her, not here. They are as phony as their mother monster.

Having said that, they lack musical knowledge, for failing to acknowledge that a lot of their “mother’s” work are ripped of from other artists – basing from the comments above. I’m sure there’s more, as the BTW cd sounds like what I’ve listened to more than 20 years ago.

Also, if Caca was as unique & innovative as her costumes are, she could be the mainstream version of Bjork. Alas, she spends more time dressing up than actually trying to push musical boundaries. That’s what she is – like her monsters – all form but no substance.

You often find that fans of Artists who talk about loving yourself and not caring what anyone thinks of you tend to be the worst, because their fave turns them into anarchists without morals and encourages them to think that they can say and do anything they want. And it’s strange, because the other fans of Artists who get a lot of hate and are treated the worst tend to be the nicest. Not always though, Britney Spears has got a lot of poor treatment from the public in her time and I have to say that, as a community, her fans are really spiteful and immature.

I am a college-educated Monster (and a published author), so to say such a statement (from above) is not only ridiculous, but just proves what kind of a rotten person you are. What musical knowledge do you have? What makes your opinion more valid than another’s? Monsters are all just immature, senseless cretins? Yeah, right. Some Monsters I know are the most beautiful people I know – and NOT because of their love for Lady GaGa. Alex is going to an all boy’s college
By the time he’s 27 he will be desperate for a Girlfriend so he will find me roaming around the street and I will run into his arms and he will beg me to kiss him and when I do people will cheer and confetti will come down on us and I will live happily ever after and have 10 babies

Apparently, Alex’s best online friend likes me so when he sees me and Alex talking he starts asking us what we’re talking about and when we don’t tell him he gets really mad at Alex.
I wanna scream cause he’s sooo nosy.

Okay Alex, I think you will find this one interesting. This one is in reference to Gaga’s Government Hooker…it sounds so much like this Madonna song, Broken I’m Sorry :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pxky7iNPSRk I couldn’t believe it myself but I even played it back to back and they sound so much alike.
